Ben Lomond Golf Course, Ogden Utah, July 3rd 2016
Back 9
White Tees
7 AM Tee Time
TJ: This was fun. I was the only Bean at a Buckway family tradition. Needless to say I was a bit outmatched, haha. This marks the 3rd time I've been out at this course, and the 2nd time out the back. Having an early morning tee time is nice, the weather isn't as hot, nobody is going to be rushing you, and it is peaceful. There is a downside however, everything is wet.
According to their website the course opened up in 1957, with the second set of nine opening in 1962. I really like this course. It's not terribly challenging, but it is enough to get you to think about your shots. Strategically placed bunkers and hazards will punish the errant shot, so focus more on aim, and less on power. (Both of which I have trouble with...)
The 17th is a gorgeous little par 3 with water on the right, and your tee shot has to go up and over a tree to a slighly elevated green. This hole begs you to go right at it, so i did. Nice little 8 iron right up on the green with a slight push 10 foot push to the right. Ended up with par, because I am Timmy Two Putts.
They say you should play with players that will push you to be better, and I definitely got that on this round. No beer this round, because it was 7 in the morning. No pictures to accompany this round either, I was focused more on the company.

I would give this course a Par
Jordan: Good ole Ben Lomond. As TJ said, I partake in playing this course every Sunday with my dad and uncle. I will echo the early morning tee time is nice, it's cool and you don't have anyone hitting into you. The back nine does have some challenges if you have an errant shot. Pretty much every green will punish you if you are over the back, with this nine and these greens it is always better to be short than long. And luckily for me, I didn't go over any of the greens on this round. This course is definitely one that you can easily go low if you have power and accuracy (unfortunately for me, I can't have both at the same time). TJ mentioned the 17th which is a fun little hole, but I really enjoy the 13th, it is a slight dog-leg left par 4 that is reachable if you connect with your driver (by God, I will drive that green this year...) But this time wasn't my time, I hit a good drive, but tried to help my chip which resulted in a bogey for the hole. This course is in good shape, there are minimal dead spots and the fairways and greens are well maintained. Yeah, no beer at 7 AM, but there might be a round that drives either of us or both of us to drink that early.
The below image isn't from this round, but another one we played, it is the par 3 17th that TJ mentioned.
