Crane Field Golf Course, Clinton Utah, July 9th
Back 9
Blue Tees
Tee Time 7:04 AM
TJ: Usually our tee times are in the middle of the afternoon, in the heat of the day, and mostly away from other golfers. That was not the case today, as people love to get out and beat the heat for their weekend nine. On hole 13 we caught the group ahead of us, which subsequently meant the group behind us caught up. This actually turned out to be ok, because I knew one of the people in that group so I got to chat with him.
I'm going to give the course a bogey, but it's like a putt lipping out bogey.
7 AM isn't exactly conducive to a beer. So we went with cold brew coffee. My coffee was Daily Rise.
This is a solid cold brew coffee. Tons a chocolate flavor, and not a bit of bitterness. I'd drink this every morning for the rest of my days, and not have a single complaint.
The "brew" I had today gets a birdie.
Jordan: We played the back nine of Crane Field which went in well before the front and has been given more time to take hold and grow into a nice course. Granted, the course is still a little off, it is close to being there. My only hangup with this course is that they have what would be a great links style course, but they are trying to get trees to grow in ground that is proving to be quite the challenge. This course is a sister course of Remuda and it seems instead of having Crane Field be its own, they are trying for Remuda 2. I would love for this to be links style, with deep sand and grass bunkers as well as vast swaths of maiden grass. However, they aren't trying for that so with what is there, it is an overall good course that is close to being what they want. What they have done is quite commendable, considering how alkali the ground is. One major problem with this course is the pitch marks on the green, there are tons of them on every single green, I know part of that is on players to fix them, which they clearly don't, but it also seems the greens crew doesn't really do much to fix them either with how many marks there are.
You can see that some of the ground is in rough shape.
The course gets a bogey from me, with those pitch marks being a big part of the score.
As opposed to beer, we went with cold brew coffee. Seemed like a good idea for a 7 AM tee time. My coffee was La Barba's Ethiopian. I've had a few different coffees from La Barba but this was my first foray into their Ethiopian cold brew. This is just black Ethiopian coffee and water, as opposed to their Capitol cold brew which has lemon juice. This coffee was great, it was bold, but not too bold to pick up on the slight chocolate and strawberry notes. This was a nice blend between sweetness and acidity and a great drink of choice to go with a morning tee time.
The coffee gets a birdie.
