Toana Vista Golf Course - Wendover, NV - Review by Jordan
I know this blog is based around Utah golf courses since that’s where both TJ and I
are from. But with the RPM 2 Man Scramble coming up at Toana Vista in Wendover,
NV I wanted to review the course. I have played out here a few times, both in two
man scrambles with my dad, and four man scrambles with my dad, his friend Hal,
and Hal’s son Craig. I haven’t just played this course for leisure; I have only played it
for the tournaments mentioned above.
This is a great course. A patch of green oasis in the middle-of-nowhere desert that is Wendover. I’m sure that doesn’t sound great for Wendover, but it isn’t meant to be an insult. Just highlighting the fact that it is as desert as it gets out there, but the course is in fantastic shape.
The fairways are always in excellent shape and the greens are extremely fast, almost like you are putting on your driveway. But I absolutely love the fast greens. As far as ball marks, these are some of the best greens I have played. I don't know if people are more likely to fix them, or if the greens crew is on top of their game, but it is greatly appreciated. This is a fun, challenging golf course. There are a few holes that you can try to really hit your drive out there and not be punished too bad, but there are also some that will end up in the desert that runs throughout the course as well as around it.
The first time I played this course I couldn’t help myself from continuously saying how beautiful it was. In the few times I have played it since then, I still find myself thinking the same thing. It truly is a beautiful course. I definitely like the juxtaposition of the green, lush course surrounded by the desert.
If you are out in Wendover, make sure to play this course. Included in your green fee is the cart and some practice balls on the range, but make sure you practice putting as well so you can get used to the speed. And watch out for the antelope that have made this course their home!
This course gets a double eagle.
